This patch series consists of 25 commits that backport upstream QEMU changes onto the devel-8.2 branch as preparatory and enabling patches for AMD SEV-SNP support. The changes span memory region API modernisation, host memory backend cleanup, BQL lock renaming, x2APIC emulation, i386 platform fixes, machine compatibility additions, and the core KVM/SEV infrastructure required to support SEV-SNP VM types and the `KVM_SEV_INIT2` initialisation path. Together these patches bring the devel-8.2 QEMU tree into alignment with the upstream prerequisites for full SEV-SNP guest creation.

**Key Bug Fixes:**

- **PIC interrupt handling when APIC is globally disabled**: Fixed incorrect PIC interrupt delivery in `hw/i386/x86` when the APIC is globally disabled. Without this fix, edge-triggered PIC interrupts could be dropped or misrouted on i386 boards, causing guest hangs during boot without an APIC.
- **kvm_arch_cpu_check_are_resettable() removal**: Removed the now-redundant architecture-specific CPU reset check. Board reset is blocked only when guest state is encrypted; the prior per-arch hook was bypassed incorrectly in some paths. The backport additionally drops an Anolis-specific `is_hygon_cpu()` guard that was added inside the removed function to preserve Hygon hardware support via the remaining code paths.
- **ARM KVM debug handler scoping**: Moved `kvm_arm_handle_debug()` out of the exported KVM interface and into the ARM-private KVM backend. The function was never intended to be called from outside the ARM KVM target, and the prior export risked accidental misuse across architectures.

**Feature Additions:**

- **KVM_SEV_INIT2 support for SEV and SEV-ES**: Implemented `KVM_X86_SEV_VM` and `KVM_X86_SEV_ES_VM` VM types and the `KVM_SEV_INIT2` function of `KVM_MEMORY_ENCRYPT_OP`. This replaces the legacy `KVM_SEV_INIT` / `KVM_SEV_ES_INIT` functions and shares the initialisation path with SEV-SNP and TDX. Falls back to the legacy init path if the new VM types are not supported by the host kernel.
- **x86 confidential guest superclass**: Introduced `x86-confidential-guest` as a common QOM superclass for x86 confidential guest implementations (SEV, SEV-ES, SEV-SNP, TDX). It extends `ConfidentialGuestSupportClass` with a `kvm_type()` method that provides the VM type to pass to `KVM_CREATE_VM`, enabling a unified creation path across all confidential technologies.
- **mc->kvm_type() delegation for x86**: Implemented `mc->kvm_type()` for x86 boards to delegate VM type selection to the `confidential-guest-support` object attached to the machine. When a `sev-guest` object is configured, QEMU now automatically selects `KVM_X86_SEV_VM` or `KVM_X86_SEV_ES_VM` and passes it to `KVM_CREATE_VM`, replacing per-technology manual type selection.
- **x2APIC emulation in TCG**: Implemented x2APIC MSR register access in `i386/tcg` and added x2APIC mode support in the APIC emulation layer, enabling guests to use the x2APIC interface under TCG. This is a prerequisite for correct APIC state handling in SEV-SNP guests where the APIC state is part of the measured VMSA.
- **Compat machine types for 9.0 and 9.1**: Added QEMU 9.0 and 9.1 compatibility machine types across ARM, i440fx, m68k, q35, s390x, and spapr boards, ensuring that existing guest images created with those machine versions remain functional on the updated devel-8.2 QEMU binary.

**Logic & Performance Improvements:**

- **KVM encrypted guest state tracking**: Added a KVM-level flag to track whether a vCPU's state is currently encrypted. Once state is encrypted, `KVM_GET/SET_*` ioctls are skipped rather than silently returning stale data, and `cpu->vcpu_dirty` is never set, preventing incorrect register writeback attempts on SEV-SNP or TDX guests. Reset is also gated on the encrypted state flag.
- **Memory region API boolean return refactoring**: Converted `memory_region_init_ram_flags_nomigrate()`, `memory_region_init_rom_nomigrate()`, `memory_region_init_rom()`, `memory_region_init_ram_from_file()`, and `memory_region_init_ram_from_fd()` to return `bool` following the documented QEMU Error API convention. Callers are updated to check the return value directly rather than inspecting the `Error **` parameter, simplifying error propagation throughout the memory subsystem.
- **Host memory backend alloc() boolean return**: Converted `HostMemoryBackendClass::alloc()` to return `bool`, simplified `host_memory_backend_memory_complete()`, and adopted `g_autofree` for local allocations in alloc() handlers. This reduces boilerplate and makes error handling consistent with the broader QEMU backend conventions.
- **BQL lock rename**: Renamed `qemu_mutex_lock_iothread()` and its counterparts to `bql_lock()` / `bql_unlock()` / `bql_locked()` across `system/cpus` and all call sites, aligning QEMU's Big QEMU Lock naming with the upstream convention adopted in QEMU 9.x.
- **ioapic_init_gsi() parent pointer**: Changed `ioapic_init_gsi()` to accept its parent bus as a pointer rather than deriving it internally, making the dependency explicit and enabling cleaner board-level GSI wiring for both PC and Q35 machines.
- **q35 init simplification**: Simplified `pc_q35_init()` by removing dead conditional paths for the case where PCI is not enabled, since Q35 always requires PCI. This reduces code noise ahead of further SEV-SNP-related machine init changes.
- **pc_machine_kvm_type() removal**: Dropped the now-redundant `pc_machine_kvm_type()` callback from the i386 PC machine, replacing its role with the new `mc->kvm_type()` delegation to the confidential-guest-support object.

**Robustness & Safety:**

- **Backport compatibility**: All commits carry explicit `[Backport changes]` annotations where the devel-8.2 tree diverges from the upstream commit. Key deviations include the Hygon `is_hygon_cpu()` guard removal and ARM/i386 line-number-only shifts. No KABI-breaking changes are introduced.
- **Legacy SEV init fallback**: The `KVM_SEV_INIT2` path gracefully falls back to `KVM_SEV_INIT` / `KVM_SEV_ES_INIT` when the host kernel does not support the new VM types, ensuring backward compatibility with kernels that have not yet received the SEV-SNP KVM patches.
- **Encrypted state gate on board reset**: Board reset is now explicitly blocked when any vCPU has encrypted state, preventing a reset from writing a cleartext CPU state over an encrypted VMSA and causing undefined guest behavior or a firmware-detected integrity failure.
